Shaleeza Hasham | Head of Hospitality & Communications

11 August, 2021  ·  Less than a minute read

Shaleeza Hasham is the Head of Hospitality & Communications at CHD Living, an award-winning, family-owned and operated group of care services comprising 13 residential facilities, two specialist rehabilitation centres and a domiciliary care business.

Since joining the family business over 10 years ago, Shaleeza has overseen the strategic business development and growth of all CHD Living’s services whilst completely rebranding the organisation. She has devoted much of her time to implement new technologies and systems across the business, including the introduction of electronic care planning, which has helped to revolutionise its core offerings.

Shaleeza is also the Founder of the Adopt a Grandparent programme, a socially-driven initiative combating isolation and loneliness amongst vulnerable people. The programme, which has garnered the support of over 83,000 people globally, went viral during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Passionate about discussing issues impacting the health and aged social care sectors, Shaleeza regularly provides expert commentary on national and international news outlets and has featured on ITV News, BBC News, Sky News, CNN, Good Morning America and many more.

Prior to joining CHD Living, Shaleeza obtained an Undergraduate degree in English Language & Communication Studies from King's College London before embarking upon a career in B2B & Tech PR. In this role, Shaleeza managed a wealth of impressive clients such as Facebook, Apple, Websense and Microsoft Office Small Business.

Wanting to follow her passion for Health & Social Care, Shaleeza returned to education and completed a Masters in International Healthcare Management from Imperial College London’s Business School.

Shaleeza kindly answered a few quick-fire questions...

What makes CHD Living different from other care groups?
That’s easy. We are a family. Every person involved in CHD. Be that a member of staff, a resident or care at home customer or their families, they all become a part of our unique CHD Living community. We pride ourselves on being a family run business that only provides care that we would be happy for our own loved ones to receive. And, with the diverse range of care services we provide, from later life care, rehabilitation, enduring mental health for young adults and care in the comfort of your own home, we are proud to be making a positive impact on our entire community by always “Creating Happiness Daily”.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received?

I’ll never forget this piece of advice. It was from a now trusted friend. Now retired, he spent his entire career in social care. We met at a conference about 12 years ago when I was still very new to the sector and green behind the ears and he told me: “If you want to know if a care home is well run, safe and clean, the first place you look is in the laundry cupboard! If this is well organised then you can bet you have found a winning service!”

What qualities make a great team leader?

Empathy is really important. Showing support, understanding and care to your team builds trust and strong working relationships. My mantra is: “It costs nothing to be kind”.

What 3 words would you use to describe CHD Living?
Compassionate, Supportive, Caring.

How do you picture CHD Living in 10 years?

I picture CHD continuing to do bigger and better things. We are and always will be a provider of service-led, personalised care, always putting the individual at the forefront of what we do. I imagine we will continue fulfilling the dreams of many, many more people we care for and always “Creating Happiness Daily”.
