Are you looking for some useful stress management tips?
April marks National Stress Awareness Month, which aims to increase awareness and educate people about the causes and effects of stress. Stress is a normal response to challenging situations, but when it becomes persistent, it can take a toll on both our mental and physical wellbeing.
Thankfully, there are many things we can do to manage our stress levels and promote a healthier lifestyle.
Read on to discover the best ways to manage stress, and take care of yourself or your elderly loved one:

Stress Management Tips: Mindfulness and Meditation
Engaging in regular mindfulness and meditation practices are one of our top stress management tips.
Practising mindfulness can provide numerous benefits for individuals of all ages, including seniors. It can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and concentration, enhance emotional wellbeing, and increase feelings of calm and relaxation.
To help combat stress this April, there are an array of mindful and meditation techniques. Some of our favourites include:
Deep breathing exercises: A relaxation technique that involves taking slow, deep breaths from the diaphragm. They can be practised anywhere, at any time, and are often used in yoga, meditation, and other relaxation techniques.
Mind mapping: A visual way to structure ideas and concepts. It involves starting with a central idea or topic, and then creating branches that radiate outwards to represent related sub topics or ideas — perfect for creative expression!
Journalling: The practice of writing down thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a personal journal or diary.
Body Scanning: A mindfulness, meditation practice, which involves systematically focusing on different parts of the body to increase awareness and relaxation.
Repeating positive affirmations: Saying uplifting sentences such as ‘I am capable of achieving my goals and dreams’ and ‘I am worthy and deserving of love and respect’ on a daily basis to boost self esteem.
So, why not try incorporating mindfulness practices into your daily routine?

Stress Management Tips: Seeking Social Support
As the old adage goes, ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’!
That’s why, to alleviate stress this spring, we’d recommend talking to someone you trust. If you notice an elderly loved one struggling to manage stress, let them know that you’re always there to lend a sympathetic ear.
It can be a great relief for elderly adults to know that they have someone to talk to and share their concerns with.
