Are you looking for a career change, and want to make a difference in the lives of others?

Have you considered looking into healthcare careers?

There are many different paths you can take within the healthcare industry, from working as a live-in carer to becoming a chef.

Here, we’re exploring various healthcare careers to help you decide if it’s the right path for you.

Healthcare Careers: Live-in Care

A live-in carer usually works on a rotational basis. Often, you'll spend a period of time living in your recipient’s home, before then having an equal amount of time off.

This can work great for those whose own children may have flown the nest. Often, when a child leaves home, the parent may feel that they need to nurture and help someone.

Becoming a live-in carer can fill the void, and help to combat loneliness.

Healthcare Careers: Care at Home

Often, when people are in need of care, they remain in their own homes for as long as possible. They may need someone to pop in to assist with medication or help with day-to-day living.

Working in home care can be a great way of meeting new people and helping them to live their lives independently.

You can arrange to take your care recipient to cafes or daycare centres. This will help you to meet other people in the same field and can open up opportunities for new friendships.

Have You Considered Working in a Care Home?

Working in a care home can help you to feel part of a family unit. Often, people who work in care homes forge unique relationships with their care recipients.

As you're together every day, you're not only caring for their basic needs but also providing them with a sense of belonging and comfort.

You become their carer, mentor and friend, and can make a huge difference in their lives.

Healthcare Careers: Become a Chef

Chefs are an integral part of how a care home runs. Care recipients are reliant on them for their nutritional health, which can often be complex.

As a chef in a care home, you’ll need to factor in health, religious and cultural differences in the menu. It can be challenging, but also very rewarding; you'll feel good knowing that you’re helping people to maximise their health and wellbeing.

Why Not Become an Activities Coordinator?

It’s important for care recipients to stay active in their senior years. Activities such as exercise, crafts and baking can all help to improve their physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

As an activities coordinator, you’ll be in charge of liaising with the residents to find out what they enjoy. You'll then plan an itinerary for them accordingly.

You’ll need to ensure you include activities they enjoy,, as well as find new ways to engage and motivate them. It’s a fun and rewarding way to get involved and ensure you’re making a difference in their lives.
