Fun Summer Activities: A Day Trip to the Beach
A trip to the beach is a wonderful activity for you and your loved one on a warm day. The fresh air can help to refresh you, and the soothing sounds of the sea can aid in reducing stress and anxiety, providing a sense of comfort and peace.
Spending time at the beach can also bring about a sense of nostalgia; try asking your loved one about trips to the beach when they were younger to help evoke some happy memories.
You could spend some time watching the waves, collecting shells and skimming stones, before strolling along the pier with a fish and chip supper. Why not round off your day with a delicious ice cream?

Play Some Garden Games
Try to make the most of the garden this summer; there are plenty of outdoor games you could try, such as giant Jenga or Chess.
For a simple, competitive game, why not try drawing a grid on the patio with chalk, and writing a number in each section? You can then take it in turns to throw a beanbag on to the grid, scoring points in accordance to the number you land on. The person with the most points wins.
Another way to make the most of the garden is to have your morning cup of tea outdoors, listening to the birds and sharing stories together.

Fun Summer Activities: Enjoy Plenty of Homemade Picnics
Picnics are a great way to make the most of both the sunshine and your time together. You can take a picnic to the park, the woods, the beach - or even the back garden!
To make your picnics interesting, you could get creative with your loved one in the kitchen. As baking is an excellent activity for enhancing coordination, problem-solving, motor skills and comprehension, you could try it as one of your summer activities. You and your loved one can bake sausage rolls, cakes and scones to include in your picnic hamper. If you’re feeling more adventurous, why not go foraging for berries, and use them to make a delicious jam to enjoy with your scones?
You could invite the rest of your family to join you on your picnic, or ask your loved one’s friends to come along. This will ensure your loved one has plenty of opportunities for socialising and sharing their delicious bakes!

Make Healthy Ice Lollies
The best way to cool down in the summer is by indulging in a delicious ice lolly. One of our favourite summer activities to try is making our own fruit lollies.
This passionfruit and guava ice lolly recipe is simple, refreshing and delicious. Why not try adding chopped fresh berries for an extra vitamin boost?
Make a big batch so your loved one has plenty to keep them going until next time.

Go Butterfly Spotting/Bug Hunting
Bug hunting is a fun activity, no matter how old you are! You can collect bugs in a small pot with a magnifying lid, or recycle an old tub. Pop in some stones, leaves and water to ensure the bugs have everything they need whilst you study them, before putting them back where you found them.
Alternatively, if you’d rather not catch any insects, you could go on a butterfly hunt, keeping a record of all the different species you spot along the way.
If your loved one enjoys spotting the butterflies, you might want to consider investing in a caterpillar kit, such as Insect Lore, where they can observe the life cycle of a butterfly from the comfort of their own home

Fun Summer Activities: Create Colourful Fruit Platters
The last on our list of fun summer activities is to try creating a colourful fruit platter. This is a great way to encourage healthy eating and ensure your loved one stays hydrated during the warm weather.
Choose from a variety of different fruits - such as watermelon, pineapple, mango and berries - and help your loved one chop them up and arrange them on a platter.
Take your fruit into the garden and enjoy a delicious feast for your mid-morning snack. You can freeze the leftovers for another day - or use them to make your ice lollies!
These are all wonderful summer activities to do with your loved one, but if they’re in need of a little extra care at home, please contact a member of our CHD team to find out more about our care services.
